FAQ's
Is your produce organic?
We don't grow in soil so can't be certified organic - but vertical farming delivers many more benefits. We use absolutely no pesticides and our produce is highly nutritious due to its freshness.
How does vertical farming work?
What is Vertical Farming?
Vertical farming is an innovative agricultural technique that involves cultivating crops in vertically stacked layers. This method maximizes space efficiency by using technologies such as LED lighting, hydroponics, and aeroponics to create optimal conditions for plant growth.
Renewable energy powers the LED lights (they replace the sun). Small amounts of water (90% less than conventional agriculture) are mixed with tiny amounts of nutrient salts (hydroponics) and within a few weeks we’ve got incredible quality, nutritious and delicious low carbon and local food, grown in a warehouse in the middle of the city.
Why vertical farming?
Vertical farming produces flavourful, beautiful, and delicious produce year-round. At Shoot, we guarantee that produce is always harvested, packed, and delivered within 24 hours (Farm to Fork in 24).
Vertical farming uses less land and water compared to traditional agriculture, and controlled environments in vertical farming means that no herbicides or pesticides are necessary.
Vertical farms grow indoors in urban settings, and offer year-round access to locally sourced, high-quality produce. Fresh produce can be grown locally regardless of seasonal limitations. The journey from farm to fork reduces from 1000s of miles to dozens; from days to hours.
