Our Technology

Shoot use a mix of key technologies to bring indoor farming to life. The combination of these makes for a different kind of farming – where we can farm what’s needed when, and bring the best produce to market, every time.

  • LED Lighting – crucial for vertical farming. LEDs provide specific wavelengths of light needed for photosynthesis.
  • Environmental Control – It’s the perfect day every day at Shoot. We maintain the same conditions year-round by growing in a highly insulated indoor environment. This means the farm operates completely independent of external weather conditions.
  • Hydroponics - Instead of traditional soil-based cultivation, we employ hydroponics to deliver a nutrient-rich water solution to plants. This contains everything they need to thrive. The water recirculates, so nothing is wasted.
  • Vertically Stacked Design – Currently 7 layers high, this maximises space efficiency and output.
  • Crop Scheduling - Optimized for indoor farming, with 103 harvests per year at Shoot. We schedule growth cycles so that crops are at their very best when we harvest them.
  • Crop Recipes – Seed density, variety, watering frequency, climate, light intensity are all customised to deliver a precise ‘recipe’ of plant growth.

Our Vision

Some of the technologies & innovations we’ll be adopting in the future.

  •  Advanced, Multi Spectrum LED Systems – Different wavelengths, intensities, and day lengths can alter many aspects of crops such as flavour, nutrient profiles, and plant morphology.
  • AI Insights – To drive continuous improvements to quality and improve the productivity of our farms – more food with less resources, with even better quality.
  • Integration with a Smart Renewable Energy Grid – Managing energy demand in our operations to help cope with the natural peaks and troughs in supply in renewable energy.
  • A wider crop range – Continued innovation will allow us to grow a wider range of crops in vertical farms. This could include large leafy greens, soft fruit, tomatoes, courgettes, peppers and more.
